Smart, compact and visually pleasing, the DRÖMMARE VR headset boasts excellence.
The project was to create a compact virtual reality headset, which was compatible with mobile phones and to create a bluetooth connected controller for navigation and commands. For this particular brief, I had to choose a brand and target market to design this model to fit, within their ethics, brand promise and style.
The DRÖMMARE VR headset was created as a model for IKEA (as the brand idea). This design was intended for a wide range of users, using high aesthetics and affordable cost as factors.
This model was created and refined by hand drawing, initial research and research into VR headsets on the market. Through the use of Creo Parametric, and countless hours of work, the headset was created. This was then rendered out in Keyshot rendering software, to create realistic and accurate materials and textures to every part of the model. The first image shows the headset in full, the way it would look as a finished model, including the controller. The second image shows all of the complex parts of the model and how it fits together to create a working, compact VR headset, as per what the brief asked for.
The purpose of the VR headset was to create it to fit into feasible market gap and to fulfil the needs of the target market, for IKEA as the branding. The visual aspects of the headset were to look closely like other IKEA products, keeping simple colours, streamline design and ease of product use and cleaning. The headset functions were to be an easy to use product, easily adjustable to different users, comfortable to use and compatible with a wide range of mobile phones.
The project had a significant impact on my personal skills in CAD modelling, rendering and designing complex parts to create a full design. This was very challenging to create in CAD due to the rounded and tapered parts, which involved complex surface modelling. The overall outcome of the project was significant, as it was a challenging one but the final product was something I was proud of.
