Taking inspiration from natural oceanic forms, the Skal cutlery set aims for a unique eating experience.
The project was focused on the creation of sets eating utensils with longevity for a unique, short lifespan restaurant client concept called Nulla-C. The eating utensil sets are aimed to last for the full 100 years of the Nulla-C restaurant, which focuses on food waste reduction.

The purpose of the project was to try and think outside the box in terms of designing eating utensils that are far from a traditional cutlery set. The other purpose was to stick within the determined cost limitations and aim for creating long lasting designs.

I took on the brief by trying to stay away from anything too traditional in terms of cutlery designs, to be as unique as possible within it. The aim of my set designs were for the designs to have sculptural appearance, but still remain useful for the users at Nulla-C. The designs were based upon research findings that reduced food wastage, which was implemented into the Nulla-C restaurant concept specifics. The end result was in line with my original aims for the project, taking inspiration for their shapes from guitar pick designs and oceanic forms.

The project challenged me to think outside of the box and consider the techniques in terms of creating these designs in reality, as well as finishes for the metal. The critical thinking and designing unique products were most beneficial in this project outcome.
